I made this meme after having so many people tell me that I needed to ‘take the high road’ when my hubs left me for another woman. (How insulting! Like I wasn’t going to anyway?!)

I saw this quote and had a nice laugh because it’s so fitting in so many ways.

Face it, it’s human nature for we ‘dump-ees’ to want revenge. Our egos have been bruised. We feel victimized. We want to be heard and to be validated. But with all the people I’ve talked with through the years who found themselves in such a situation, the lion’s share of them actually DO take the high road.

The majority of the jilted actually ARE able to consider the circumstances, even when in pain. The majority of time, their cooler heads prevail. The majority of the crushed ARE  able to think outside the box and maintain a vision sees past what’s happening at the moment.

On the other hand, it’s almost unanimous that it’s the dump-er who seeks immediate gratification. It’s almost always the dump-er who thinks and lives only for the immediate now. It’s the dump-er who gets trapped in continuing to inflict pain on others. Sadly, this many times includes their first set of children that they so easily throw aside for the new love interest and/or his/her children.

Kudos to all of you who’ve found yourselves an unwitting player in the ‘love-em-and-leave-em’ power play.

My hat’s off to all of you who—even when it wasn’t fun—did choose ‘the high road’.

Lyrics
I gave you my heart, I gave you my soul
I gave everything that I had, but ya left me in the cold
But still I have faith, somehow I believe
That if I keep love in my heart, It will find it’s way to me
I could fight, seek revenge, but that’s not who I am
No I’m not giving in, I will rise above
Chorus
I’m gonna keep walking, though it may seem far
I’m gonna keep preaching, when life gets too hard
Not gonna let you bring me down, I’ll take the high road
I’m gonna keep climbing, till I see the top,
I’m gonna keep trying, though I may get lost
Not gonna let you bring me down
I take the high road
I’m gonna get by on the high road (Yes I will)
I’m gonna get by on the high road
This pain that I feel, I will overcome
I know somewhere deep down inside, it’s the pain that makes us strong
I could curse, I could shout, take the easy way out
I forgive you … Somehow I will rise above
Chorus
I’m gonna keep walking, though it may seem far
I’m gonna keep preaching, when life gets too hard
Not gonna let you bring me down, I’ll take the high road
I’m gonna keep climbing, Till I see the top
I’m gonna keep trying, though I may get lost
Not gonna let you bring me down
I take the high road
..
I get by
To be real, I can’t keep it inside
I may fall sometimes, but I will survive
..
I’m gonna keep reaching, I’m gonna keep climbing
I’m gonna keep trying,
..
I’m gonna keep walking, though it may seem far
I’m gonna keep preaching, when life gets too hard
Not gonna let you bring me down, I take the high road
I’m gonna get by on the high road [Repeat: x5]
